It is disappointment for Newcastle pair Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul, with both of them left on the bench for Holland v Turkey on Saturday night.
PSG’s Gregory van der Wiel keeping Newcastle’s current centre-back out of the Dutch team.
With only six points from the opening twelve, the Netherlands desperately need a win,
Daryl Janmaat was made the scapegoat last Autumn when Holland lost their opening European Championships qualifier to the Czech Republic, dropped after his late error helped gift a late winner.
Despite having been first choice in Brazil last summer, Janmaat was immediately left out of the Dutch squad without an explanation by new manager Guus Hiddink. With the player claiming he would be having ‘face to face’ discussions with manager Guus Hiddink about the situation.
“I was surprised that I was not there anymore because I had played regularly for the previous two years in succession.”
“I have not had the chance to talk to the coach about it. We will in the coming days, quite a bit of time talking to each other, we now have plenty of time. It is something I don’t do by phone. I do prefer face to face.”
“I do not have to prove myself again though,I’m 25 and it does not make sense that I would have to prove myself once again.
Janmaat and Krul will share the bench with former Newcastle loan player Luuk De Jong, who has been revitalised since returning to Dutch domestic football with PSV.
