Derby say no secret Newcastle United deal agreed
The Derby County Chief Executive, Sam Rush, has stated that no secret deal has been agreed for Steve McClaren to join Newcastle at the end of the season.
In fact the Derby boss is not only confident that McClaren is not interested in joining Newcastle but he also believes there is any other club that is more attractive at the moment:
“From my point of view, I think Derby County is an incredibly exciting football club.
“I can’t think of anywhere, anyone would rather be, especially given the start of the building programme Steve has undertaken and how well he has done.”
Not sure just how exciting things are at Derby but certainly McClaren is well thought of there and looking destined for the play-offs once again, if winning promotion this time then it is very hard to see the former England boss wanting to join the Newcastle United circus.
Despite claims of Newcastle having had contact under the radar with Derby about Steve McClaren’s position, Sam Rush is adamant that nothing could be further from the truth:
“We have not had any approach, discussion or communication of any sort (from Newcastle), whatsoever
“You are likely to have this sort of thing if people are being successful, traditionally it’s more likely to be with players but I think that the job Steve has done here has been significant.”
McClaren not interested:
“The position from Steve has been very consistent.
“He was only three or four months into his new contract when that speculation (re Newcastle) first came out and he dismissed it then.”
