Steven Taylor says John Carver should get the Newcastle job long-term, with his understanding of modern players a key asset.

The United defender says that Carver’s experience of dealing with the big players/egos back in Sir Bobby’s days has given him invaluable experience.

Taylor says that Pardew’s former assistant knows when to put an arm round the shoulder and when to kick somebody up the backside, I think we all have quite a long list of current and former United players we’d have liked to have seen getting the latter treatment in the centre circle at St. James’ Park.

Asked whether John Carver should get the job permanently, Steven Taylor told Talksport;

“Of course, the players get on well with him, he understands all the players as well.

“He has dealt with some massive egos in his time as Sir Bobby Robson’s assistant.”

Understanding modern players;

“He also understands modern day footballers, which is one of the biggest things nowadays, it is how you treat your players and he does that very well.

“Sometimes he puts his arm round a player, while sometimes a player needs a kick up the backside, that is important.”

Why ? So he picks you every week cos you wer in his youth team ? You wooden head !

  • LeazesEnder

I know one player who needs a kick up the backside!

  • wor monga

That’s Ok…let’s see how he can operate with the players that he has at
his disposal now…we all know the deficiencies we have, and the areas where we
let lesser, but perhaps more physical or better organised teams, take advantage…

that he has hold of the the reins we need to see some improvements, quickly,
and if they happen then he is the right man for the job, and good luck to him!!

  • Demented_Man

Another one in the line of supportive sycophants.  Richard Dinnis, anyone?

  • SimonM68

Peas in a pod Taylor and Carver in that they can (and do) play the ‘local’ card a bit much.
I’m well aware of Williamson’s shortcomings but Taylor is no better (and less disciplined) – he just recieves less stick because he kisses the badge whilst gobbing off about Sunderland a couple of times a year….

  • radgiegadgie

wor monga totally agree, he has got a 16 game audition.  For me the squad is decent if not spectacular and has some quality coming back in the shape of SDJ, RTaylor and Aarons.

We may be thin at CB but, so long as he has 2 to pick from Collo, Williamson and Dummett he could not really expect any better.  Along with STaylor, they are all suspect in one way or another.

When fit the rest of the team looks alright especially if you add those injured lads into the equation.
Being cheap or local does not really come into the equation for me.  If he does well between now and the end of the season – and I appreciate that is subjective unless he wins all remaining games –  then he deserves the job.

For “wor” Steven to be saying that now is silly.

  • Alsteads

I know of one FCB that would have 52,000 kicks up the back side………. If only there were a god!

  • newcastle7

Carver should be judged on the rest of the season and if he gets us in the top seven should be given the job full time.Cannot see us losing to many games if we beat Stoke as will have a strong squad.

  • tyneside tommo

    What an arse licker

  • Jarra MIck

Wot he had a scrap with Craig Bellamy in the airport, is that dealing with big egos? Well whoopy do!! He tried to deal with big egos in the away end v soton. Blokes a thug and a half wit with about as much footballing nous as robbie savage. If I hear he is a fan one more time I think my heed will explode!!!!

  • Kev82

Steven Taylor brown nosing the manager again. If we appoint someone new in the summer he will be the first one out saying what an excellent appointment he is.

  • Paul Patterson

“He has dealt with some massive egos in his time . .”
You’re not wrong there Steven, but you’re injured until May, so he won’t be dealing with yours much . .

  • TonyMarkElsender

Don’t you mean he’ll let you play?

  • Toon Magpie

Kev82 I prefer players who slate their head coach/manager and are straight out the door, players like HBA.

  • Toon Magpie

SimonM68 You can have  your say but when Steven Taylor starts a game we dont often lose with him in the side.

  • cwtoon88

Why doesn’t he ever just shut up? He is injured again and he always makes his mouth run
