Sky Sports confirm latest Newcastle player to leave

7 years ago

Last night in Italy came reports that Davide Santon had agreed a deal to take him back to Inter Milan and now Sky Sports have just confirmed that the Italian’s departure deal is completed.

Numerous media had this morning reported agreement had been reached between Newcastle and Inter, with then this appearing on Facebook from Santon himself;

“Newcastle will always remain in my heart but life is strange… I never expected to return… Thank you to  Newcastle and thank you to all the fans for those three and a half years together…

“We have spent many good times…. This city and this club will always stay in my heart.

“I start a new adventure…. I am happy to return to Inter…  it was there that I started my career and where  I lived so many important moments…. I will give my best to repay their faith.”

However, Sky Sports had then claimed their Newcastle sources that no actual deal has been finalised as yet and Santon’s Facebook posting removed.

The Newcastle defender is said to be an initial  loan for the rest of this season with a clause that the deal would become permanent after so many appearances, the same as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa recently completed move to AS Roma

However, the delay may well have been down to the number of matches needed to trigger the permanent deal, initial sources claimed last night that it would be thirteen Inter games this season that would automatically bring about a £3m+ transfer fee, but further reports in the Italian media last night claimed Newcastle wanted a lower figure of eight matches.

If a Santon departure is confirmed then he will be the fourth (so far!) to leave this transfer window, including manager Alan Pardew.
