Rangers tribute to Newcastle signing goes badly wrong
A special Rangers tribute to one of their five Newcastle loan signings has gone a little bit wrong…
Somebody at the Glasgow club (our old friend Derek Llambias?) had the bright idea of putting together a special programme cover featuring Haris Vuckic.
As the only one of the five loan signings fit enough to play on Friday night against Hibs, I suppose it was a bit of a no-brainer.
The Vuckic themed programme appeared as below;
Not a bad attempt at a bit of a different cover feature, themed with the flag of Haris Vuckic’s home country Slovenia, especially with the Newcastle loan signing being a full international.
However, there was one slight problem, when putting together the cover they have used the wrong country’s flag!
The two countries may have very similar flag designs but as you can see below, the first is Slovakia and then the Slovenian one which should have been used.
It reminds me of past instances where the wrong national anthems have been used at international events, or the classic when Newcastle played Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA Cup in 1994.
To make the visitors feel at home, the seventies hit record Y Viva Espana was played, the only problem being of course is that Bilbao are from the Basque region, where the residents are overwhelmingly in favour of not being part of…Espana.
