The importance of Papiss Cisse to Newcastle, especially for this season, was reinforced yet again last night at Selhurst Park.

The Senegal striker scored his tenth goal of the season and looked back to his best, both with his cracking finish (watch it HERE) and his all round play.

Remarkably, the Newcastle forward is still way ahead of all of his Premier League rivals in terms of minutes per goal scored this season.

Despite players such as Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa and Harry Kane having far more creative players than Newcastle have, carving out chances for them match after match.

The following are the eight leading Premier League scorers this season, with minutes per goal preceding the player’s name and then number of PL goals scored so far this season in brackets;

74 Papiss Cisse (10)

88 Sergio Aguero (16)

94 Diego Costa (17)

110 Harry Kane (13)

147  Charlie Austin (13)

152 Alexis Sanchez (12)

190 Saido Berahino (10)

190 Robin Van Persie (10)

    Just think of how many goals he would have scored if he played for a decent well organised team. This season his contribution has kept us out of the bottom three but if a bid comes in for him in the summer with the offer of a good payday then unfortunately he will be off and who can blame him. What will we get to replace him, Well De Jong will be knocking on the door at the beginning of next season so that will be the excuse again not to spend money. We’re doomed I tell you but then so is Rangers.

    toonterrier or a team that played with attacking priorities and more than just sticking one up front and isolating him, expecting him to chase down his own headers as long balls are hoofed up to him?
