Yesterday brought outlandish claims from his lawyer that Hatem Ben Arfa might even give up football, following being prevented by FIFA and the French Football authorities from playing football for the rest of the season.

His reserve match for Newcastle being counted as a competitive game which meant he’s already appeared for the maximum two clubs this season.

This morning brought reports that Hatem Ben Arfa could be eligible to go and play in the MLS as with their season being out of sync with Europe,, they kick off their matches in March.

The former Newcastle winger has rubbished his lawyer’s claims and has hinted that a move to the MLS could potentially be on the cards, or alternatively, even the North Pole…

“Today I am still in shock. I’m sad, but I don’t want to dwell on it

“Of course I will continue my career, I would go to the North Pole to play football.”

Finished with Nice but maybe not for good;

“I have had many messages of support, give me a week and I will answer (as to his next potential club).

“It is finished with Nice but maybe not permanently, I would like to thank the staff, the coach and the players who have welcomed me.”

Looking abroad;

“I am really sad not being able to play but I will not say I am sick of French football, though I am very sad about this situation.

“My main objective is to get back playing competitive football and I may go abroad – I have got meetings planned.”

    If you hate the off-field politics Graham, why do you keep
    bringing up this character’s latest antics…he wanted away, and when he got a
    chance at Hull they found out exactly why the Toon couldn’t use him…because he
    only wanted to be the ‘star’ of the team, and let the others do the hard yards
    on his behalf… the trouble was the people who seem to hate everything about
    this club then set him up as their icon of the rebellion…their very own Che
    Guevara, and you can’t get any more political than that can you?

    Problem is, those polar bears expect him to track back. If only they would put an arm around him. Th poor lad has been “Northpoled”. Not his fault.

    wor monga I wouldn’t try too hard looking for genuine footballing reasons for his departure.  He was just another high earner off the wage bill as far as Ashley was concerned.  To boot, he was like Joey Barton – he spoke his mind.  No wonder he was persona non grata.

    Demented_Man wor monga Oh here we go again, a barely articulate back street boy was Martin Luther King. Leave it out.

    Without a shadow of a doubt, Ben Arfa has been shafted here. The letter of the law can be laid out as much as you want but the spirit of the law surely doesn’t consider a one-off game with the kids to keep his fitness level up. He has every right to be aggrieved. It is a complete disgrace.
