Davide Santon will be making a swift return to the UK this week as his on-loan team face Celtic in the Europa League.

The Newcastle defender has quickly found his form after being given a chance at his old club, following it being made clear that he was surplus to requirements at St.James’ Park, despite United currently only having four fit defenders.

Yesterday, Santon made it two wins in Serie A out of two and helped Inter close the gap on the top four to six points.

Santon was rated best defender on the pitch in the 4-1 win at Atalanta and had an impressive pass completion rate of 94%.

The Italian defender also says that the fact former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has shown faith in him, has given Santon a big lift.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been recalled to the French national team after taking his chance on loan initially in Italy and now Davide Santon also remains hopeful he can do the same with Italy if he can keep his form up.

Davide Santon speaking on Sunday;

“I’m doing well and beginning to establish myself, the boss is showing faith in me and that makes me very happy.

“We have made it two wins on the bounce now and we need to keep it up.”

The national team?;

“I am getting better slowly but surely, having not played consistently for the best part of nine months.

“The national team? It’s always in my mind. If I play well for my club, I might get a call.”

Thursday night’s match between Celtic and Inter Milan is live on BT Sport 1.

    Good luck Davide, you’re better off away from the mediocre circus that is Newcastle Utd

  • supermacsnewname

    a strange loan move (one of many) that is difficult to explain
    – perhaps we are clearing the decks to make big signings
    – perhaps sants clause exists
    – perhaps cashly is an alien from the planet zog
    actualy, one of these 3 is probably true

  • Corkyjohn

    Strange in that we only have Haidara at left back, Dummett has shown repeatedly he is NOT a left back. Why couldn’t Pardew or Carver see this?

  • supermacsnewname

    Corkyjohn if we signed Hiadara & Santon today we would be celebating – but of course neither are Pardew or Carver’s players, they are Car’s – it just shows the problems when a “coach” takes umbrage with what he is given, it looks like internal politics working against team interests

  • Steve1221

    Corkyjohn Dummett has shown himself to be a solid left back and far better than Haidarra so far.

  • Steve1221

    supermacsnewname Corkyjohn For a long time Santon was seen by fans as one of Pardew’s undroppable favourites, but now that he’s gone that completely changes so that it can continue to be Pardew’s fault.

  • DavidRoxborough

    Muppet santon is far better then dunnowt

  • AshfordDeanoP

    An absolute disgrace to let go – end of

  • Jarmin Geordie

    Steve1221 Corkyjohn the juries out on that but Santon is certainly better than both of them

  • Steve1221

    That I’ll agree with

  • Martin Williamson

    He’s gone let’s move on

    It’s well documented that santon was one of pardew’s signings not carr.
