As things went from bad to worse in the horror show at the Etihad, at five down we then saw Newcastle’s best and most consistent player, Daryl Janmaat, limp off the pitch.

With only four fit defenders going into the Manchester City match, it was one of the last things any of us wanted to see.

John Carver has now given an update on the Dutch defender’s condition on the club website:

“He has got a tight groin.

“I don’t think he’s too serious at the moment but it is tight and we took him off as a precaution.”

Carver was then asked the following by the club’s own reporter:

It is important that isn’t it, because we are a bit thin at the back at the moment?

“You know me, I’m not going to make excuses.

“I’ll deal with it and just have to adjust accordingly…just get on with it.”

Problems coming home to roost. Janmaat might well end up being available for Villa but I doubt it by the tone of John Carver’s comments.

Having happily seen the club sell Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and loan out Davide Santon and Remie Streete in January, despite then only being left with five defenders, which then became four with Paul Dummett’s injury.

Carver does indeed have to ‘just get on with it’ but this is where the Newcastle model is totally flawed. Employing a yes man who stands there and says and does nothing while Ashley squeezes every last penny out of the club, leaving the manager/head coach/gofer with a threadbare squad.

  • ” you know me ” Blimey we could’ve done with Carver at Dunkirk during the war , he would’ve sorted Jerry out , good old John.

JC – Symptom of the disease, not the cause of it.
Time for everyone who does actually care about this club to fight back against Ashley again. Support OUR club, not the Mike Ashley chosen team and coach, and fight back again.
It’s Ashley who fully deserves all of our anger.

Before the game yesterday the pundits talked about would hsppen if newcastle’s defence played narrow with our wide man pickingvup cities attacks.
Low and behold thats hiw JC set us up and we got walloped very naive from JC.
maybe gsry neville should pick up the reins
I never expected us to win at man city but colback severely dented our chance of victory in the next two home games playing well but a bit of stupid petulance

The squad is threadbare by design. The position of the “head coach” is diminished and undermined by design. Ashley the problem, not Carver!!

  • Sickandtiredstill

No Brainer That is correct. But most of the game we had a back line of 6, thanks to 2 of the front 3 being back there in the places the left and right backs should have been.

The side just isn’t good enough. Not by a country mile. It won’t be good enough until or unless something at the top changes.

Focusing on Colback or JC is just avoidance of the glaringly obvious problem this football club has – It’s owner and his policies.

Even an avid argumentalist like yourself is going to have to conceded that point sooner or later.

if janmaat was a geordie they’d carve that groin out and have him back on the pitch in ten minutes!

  • Jarmin Geordie

I actually thought that Carver had listened to the kid at the golf club and played 6-2-2 because in his excitement he forgot to write it down and got it mixed up a little

  • Paul Patterson

And were is Santon and Mbiwa?
Santon is a right back who can also play at left back. Janmaat injured, Haidara all over the place and Dummett crocked. Wheres the cover? Milan. Colo and Williamson can’t follow their own noses, never mind a ball, so where’s Mbiwa? Roma.
    Absolute joke . .

JC as the weeks go on you show yourself to be a complete incompetent embarrassing excuse of a man. Those that say it’s not JC’s fault it IS! Any man with an ounce of self respect would not put himself in this position. It’s cringe worthy to watch but then he is being operated by the ultimate man with no shame
