Mike Ashley has now copied at Rangers the tactics used at Newcastle to try and gag the media.

The United owner has banned numerous publications in recent years at Newcastle and now his former NUFC sidekick, now Rangers Chief Executive, has done the same at Ibrox.

The Daily Record have revealed that they’ve been sent a fax and an email saying they are no longer welcome at Rangers for press conferences or matches.

This follows the Daily Record carrying a lot of coverage of the fight to stop Ashley and his allies from continuing to control the Glasgow club.

Going out in Derek Llambias’ name the communiqué read;

“Following recent reporting by your journalists in the Daily Record, I am writing to inform you that with immediate effect the Daily Record newspaper will be banned from attending all Rangers press conferences and games at Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park.”

The Daily Record however have made the following pledge;

‘Despite today’s ban, we will continue to write the truth.

We will continue to report the ongoing crisis on and off the park without fear or favour’.

This latest move by Rangers closely follows news earlier that a London hotel had pulled out of hosting the vital meeting that Ashley and his allies are attempting to have take place over 400 miles from Ibrox. The Rangers board attempting to prevent thousands of small shareholders/fans voting and/or attending the meeting which has been called to try and oust the board.

Remarkable. Clearly The Regime do not believe in free speach. They are unable to communicate and instead, close doors. This only heightens suspicion. Bad times ahead for Rangers, we have had this for a few years too long now.

  • PaulNewsome

The Daily Record is from the same stable as the Chronicle and the Journal, as well as the Mirror and the People. That’s one of the reasons why newspapers are such drivel nowadays.
Newcastle United PR guru, Keith Bishop boasts to potential clients on his website that he works with the Mirror, but he certainly hasn’t brought good relations with the Mirror group though.

  • fyodor48

Dam tinpot dictators whom surely know they are on the way out… Banning the press particularly Keith Jackson of Daily Record, assuredly the actions of those that see their cushy jobs are coming to an end. PLEASE.

Time for an absolute boycott of our beloved Ibrox Park.

A BOYCOTT WILL SYARVE THEM OF CASH AND FORCE THEM TO TAKE CASH FROM MR ASHLEY… ERGO , HOPEFULLY ENCOURAGING THE RAGE OF THE SFA.

DESPERATE TIMES ETC ETC. i am gettin more depressed !!!

  • SusanCommon

same crap just a different day where ashley & SD are concerned. the fa should make it compulsory that these meetings take place in the same town as the club.

  • Sickandtiredstill

Aye, that Llambias’ is not in Ashley’s pocket at all, eh? What an epic scumbag Ashley is.

  • Alsteads

Maybe  FCB has bitten off more than he can chew with trying to slime into Rangers. The prxcks attitude is to steam roller over anyone or anything to prove a point or to save face. Maybe….just maybe Rangers could be our light at the end of the tunnel. Rangers fans don’t fxxk around!

  • tino o

How petty. Doesn’t seem to be able to cope with any kind of criticism. Such a knob! !!

  • Maximus Moose

its about time the Fat Pig & his slaves were kicked out of Football everywhere !

  • Brownale69

Lets hope the Scottish press REPORT what is really going on!

  • Jarra MIck

Hey what do you expect? It worked down here, ban the local press till they come crawling back with their tails between their legs begging forgiveness. The U turn that has occurred at the Chron is nothing short of disgraceful. I just think the media and the fans up there won’t roll over like we have. You seen the attendance when our reserves played Raith in the cup at the weekend. Rangers fans will protest and vote with their feet not like the majority of the mugs down here. Remember if you are still going to the match you are part of the problem.

  • Sickandtiredstill

Alsteads I believe he has made his first major mistake. This is all exactly like when he bought us, only now the media is more savvy AND he has both the SFA and Parliament looking at him right now.
It’s the BIG LIE. Keep the spin going and silence anyone who speaks about you. That way you can convince the masses that you aren’t an ‘asset stripper’ but a saviour instead.
I think he is now running a real risk of even SD shareholders tiring of him and his Lone Ranger bully boy tactics.

  • Demented_Man

Heil Ashley!  Death to all the enemies of the Fuhrer!

I have written to the hotel in London that pulled out of hosting the shameful Rangers sham board meeting. I congratulated them on their noble stance, regardless of what motivated their change of heart.  The owner of NUFC and pretender at Rangers must be made aware at each and any opportunity, that his behaviour is totally unacceptable. Seemingly the mass media of this country just are not interested in what this man is doing in destroying great clubs with wonderful heritage in order to make a fast buck for him and his retail store. It is up to us, with what little influence we have, to alert anybody and everyone to the unacceptable activities of this person.

  • PENNYTHEDUG

Jarra MIck i totaly agree with you if the so called newcastle supporters think anything about thier club and want m.ashly etc out vote with your feet less money in. we rangers fans have show’n it can be done just grow sum balls and dont go back untill you have someone in thats right for your team WATP

  • Sickandtiredstill

PENNYTHEDUG Jarra MIck I cant make my mind up whether walking out is the answer or televised protests in the ground would be more effective.
His paranoia and hatred of bad press is blatantly obvious. SD is a public listed company with City institutional investors. It might not bother him but I’m sure they are going to be horrified at all the ongoing things hitting the news lately.

  • whickhamrobbie

Why does Ashley and his cronies dabble in Rangers or the Toon ? simple Money no love for either club, sets of fans  ,City ,traditions or history. Its all about the Wonga(pardon the pun) but as long as the bucks are rolling in he can take the flak especially when he is 400 or so miles away . sad sad sad .

  • PENNYTHEDUG

Sickandtiredstill PENNYTHEDUG Jarra MIck all you geordies need to do is if you had bigger balls stop going to the matches hit them wer it hurts the most in thier big fat pockets i can assure you i will never buy anthing from SD ever again and untill the board is evicted from ibrox i will never be back in it and there are more and more of us getting together WATP

  • Sickandtiredstill

PENNYTHEDUG Sickandtiredstill Jarra MIck Some of us have. The man thrives on division, which your own fan boards are showing as well. Some buying the line that he’s the club saviour. Glad to see you ain’t one of them. Whatever happens here, I hope you lot give him a proper kicking.

  • Gordonthetoony

I find it amazing that a guy who owns only 8.92% of the shares can dictate virtually everything at Rangers.  How can the other 3 big shareholders who own 37% between them not stop Ashley and his 3 stoogies.
Here’s hoping that enough Scotsmen find the time to go to London and give Ashley a right earful.

  • PaulNewsome

Sickandtiredstill PENNYTHEDUG Jarra MIck Hit Sports Direct. Picket Sports Direct and make their life hell. Make it an even more shameful place to go than it already is.

  • SusanCommon

Alsteads totally agree re rangers fans. i pointed this out to a pro ashley blogger on here last week.

  • SusanCommon

Brownale69 yes all bad PR as previously suggested but a small minority of toon fans already knew that we must impact on his brand. empty seats, keep away from his other investments and brands like tescos and debenhams. my wife won’t be handing over 1penny to debenhams if i have got anything to do with it and many already steer clear of puma and conga.     as for the scottish press well this story is set to run and run and not only are the directors fighting a war amongst themselves the national publicity in scotlands biggest daily paper will surely get thru to the masses. as for our own local NCJ i contacted them last year and told the editor he must make a decision either back the club or back the fans then it appeared they done suddenly decided to back the fans for now only jump back into bed with the devil. shame on NCJ

  • SusanCommon

PENNYTHEDUG Jarra MIck Totally agree. grow some balls. as a toon fan and also a  celtic fan i fully admire rangers fans for doing what they are doing. i have said all along and will continue to say this even if loads of my mates take the Pxxx out of me. I am speaking form one football fan to another football fan with rivalry to one side i can honestly say no genuine football fans deserves this owner or his type. i will say this again but surely everyone knows RIFC are going nowhere until the board have the fans back on board and the fans know this so they are being very astute so well done and compare this to NEWCASTLE UNITED SOCIAL CLUB  because thats what we are. i have seen it, i hear it & many have told me its a day out on the drink with mates and family. for gods sake forget that this is the future of our football club we are talking about. i can proudly say i am doing my bit.

  • SusanCommon

Adam_B spot on adam B and seen also he closing shops in gleesga just like he did in the toon. i don’t think its long before a joint protest takes place

  • PENNYTHEDUG

i totaly agree with you susan even after your admition of a selt supporter money makes the world go round when you choke it off things start happening and hopefully thats the road that we have chosen to go down if not we will live on and the teddy bears will be playing in an empty ground for much longer its not what the fans want but we will hold our own against what ash the cash is trying to do to us at ibrox WATP

With £10m TV cash going to be paid out for every screened match, the fans are not as important as we were …
I’ll not go back to St James Park till he’s gone – I might be away for a while though.

  • Greggy164

The people of Newcastle have allowed Ashley to rape their club. It won’t be tolerated in Glasgow. They are not welcome. The abuse hasnae even started yet. They won’t be running around Glasgow City centre as if they own it.
Look at Lennon. Baws kicked regularly. Bombs in the post. It’s only gonnae get worse for Llambias. We might need to bide our time to get Ashley but I’m sure we will
