Short-term deal imminent for Shola Ameobi and Alan Pardew after talks
After much speculation about Shola Ameobi’s future, the former Newcastle United striker is set to connect with Alan Pardew once again.
Both West Brom and Crystal Palace had been heavily linked with the forward but talks are said to have taken place on Tuesday with the South London club.ESPN say that their information is that the talks went well and a short-term deal until the end of the season is set to be announced shortly.
After mutually agreeing to cut short his spell with Gaziantep in the Turkish second division wilderness, there have also been reports that a brief stay in the Premier League could well be followed by a spell in the MLS.
Palace have brought in Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo on loan and with a number of other options already up front, it remains to be seen how Pardew would potentially utilise Shola if the deal is confirmed.
Both Newcastle and Palace have two matches each before they meet on Wednesday 11 February at Selhurst Park, with now only four points separating the two clubs.
Alan Pardew has four wins out of four so far at his new club and I think it is fair to say that many Newcastle fans feel that a dismal night in South London is already written in the stars – a winner off Shola Ameobi’s backside would be the cherry on the cake.
