Shola Ameobi offered route back into Premier League
After returning early from the Turkish second division after Gaziantep agreed to cancel his contract, Shola Ameobi has been offered a route back into the Premier League.
The thirty three year old has been offered terms by West Brom but is allegedly waiting to see if anybody else comes in for him, with Crystal Palace/Alan Pardew supposedly interested as well.
The story has been ran by The Mail and has left Baggies fans running scared that their transfer window activity could see them bringing in a striker, who only scored five Premier League goals in his last three seasons at Newcastle.
Shola did manager four goals in Turkey in eleven starts but the standard was appalling and the crowds struggled to outnumber the players on the pitch.
If West Brom have honestly offered Shola Ameobi a contract then surely he would have bitten their hands off because talk of other Premier League clubs, including our old mate Alan Pardew’s Palace, is surely ludicrous.
I must admit though I will sleep a bit easier in my bed once I know Shola is ‘snapped up’ elsewhere, rather than Newcastle.
What could be a likely scenario is that as he is a free agent, he may well be signed up by a club after the January window closes, with a club (Premier League or otherwise) taking him on after exhausting all other options.
