The situation still isn’t clear as to whether Papiss Cisse will be available for the match at Hull tomorrow.

John Carver has admitted that he hasn’t been able to get in touch with the Newcastle striker and can’t reach him by phone.

papiss cisseRumours a pigeon has been dispatched to Equatorial Guinea are unconfirmed.

Not sure if I am simply stating the obvious here but surely it isn’t ridiculous to expect that the club and player should have had a plan as to what would happen if/when Senegal got knocked out of the African Cup of Nations?

John Carver describes Papiss Cisse as ‘hugely important’ and that the only way you win games is ‘by having your top goalscorer around’.

If that is the case then surely when you have this vital player who you are paying tens of thousands of pounds a week to – you would have a conversation with Papiss Cisse which would go along the lines of…’So Papiss, if you did happen to get knocked out on Tuesday 27 Jan, obviously you will be back for Hull four days after that’.

Plus, why was there not contact before that final group match on Tuesday along the lines of ‘Good luck against Algeria BUT if you get beat what’s the plan…?’

John Carver on the Papiss Cisse situation’;

“I think he (Papiss Cisse) is fit. He came on against Algeria on Wednesday (ED: It was Tuesday and he came on after 54 mins) night, I didn’t really watch it but Steve Stone watched a bit of it and said he was there in the right areas to get a goal.

Hopefully he will be back..;

“We have been trying to get in touch with him and it hasn’t been easy but I’ve spoken to his agent and left a message with Papiss.  Hopefully he will be back for Friday, meet us in the hotel Friday night and be involved Saturday.

“We are trying to get him back and the Senegal FA haven’t been too helpful, we’re not happy about that. Southampton, West Ham and Stoke are also trying to get their players back. Hopefully he’ll be available for the weekend.”

Hugely important;

“Papiss is hugely important. We were 2-0 down against Hull earlier in the season and he came on and got the two goals.

“He is our top goalscorer and the only way you are going to win football matches is by having your top goalscorer around.

    You can bet he would be contactable if a transfer beckoned.

    Should have told him he couldn’t go unless he had his phone switched on, it works with my kids

    How do you dispatch a pigeon?

  • toonterrier

    Maybe he’s seen the weather forecast and decided to have a few extra days in the sun or has he been told to keep a low profile while the money grabbers here try to sell him on.  Either way we wont be told the truth and if he moves on it will be his fault and not the clubs.Some things never change.

    You read to much on comments made to the press or social media, if Senegal FA, for reasons known only to themselves, will not co operate, there is nothing Cisse or Carver could do.
