Nice have released an official statement on Hatem Ben Arfa via the club website, stating that the English FA have given unequivocal backing in their attempts to play the former Newcastle player.
At the moment the (LFP) Ligue 1 officials are awaiting a decision from FIFA after once again asking them for clarification on Ben Arfa’s position.
As it stands, the winger can’t play for Nice because you aren’t allowed to play for more than two clubs in a season, Hatem having played for Hull and also one Under 21 match for Newcastle, which at the minute is being counted as having played for a second club.
However, the statement posted on the official Nice website reveals that the French club have had full support from the English FA, who have sent a letter stating ‘…it does not consider the Under 21 games as official matches’.
Nice hope that this clarity from the English FA will be the final backing they need to allow Hatem Ben Arfa to play.
However, any decision will be too late to allow the ex-Newcastle player to play against his old club Marseille when Nice meet them in a Ligue 1 clash tonight.
