Newcastle star ruptures achilles tendon – out for season

Steven Taylor gave caretaker manager John Carver a dream start.

A whipped in corner from Jack Colback was met with a textbook header from the Geordie defender and was guided into the bottom left corner.

Fifteen minutes gone and everything was going according to the script for Taylor and the new managerial set-up.

However, with an hour on the clock and United leading 2-1, Steven Taylor landed awkwardly and instantly you could tell it wasn’t going to be good news.

The centre-back was forced off with Mike Williamson taking his place and within six minutes the scores were level.

On a personal level though, it is even worse news for Steven Taylor.

After the match it has been confirmed by the Mail that the defender has ruptured his achilles tendon and will miss at least the rest of the season.

A nightmare as well for John Carver as Steven Taylor had looked back on form this season.
