Newcastle’s defeat to Sunderland has saved the mackems from being rock bottom of the┬áPremier League recent form table and ensured United are down there fighting for a relegation spot over the last six games.

The last half dozen match form period kicked off with that defeat at St. James’ Park and since then Newcastle have managed one win (Everton) and a draw (Burnley) and a futrher three defeats, while Sunderland have only managed a single point in their last five games since the derby win – a goalless draw at Villa.

premier league recent form tableDismal times in the north east and even United’s next opponents Hull are above the two clubs despite Steve Bruce doing his best to relegate them. Their two wins being against Everton and Sunderland.

I have a feeling that the match down at Hull a week on Saturday won’t be the prettiest and will rely a lot on who wants it the most.

A win for Newcastle would take us to 30 points and relative safety, while a win for Hull who are currently in the relegation zone would take them to within only five points of United and see ourselves slip into what undoubtedly would be the fringes of a relegation scrap.

Good luck to Southampton as they show you can compete for the top four if show ambition but maybe interesting thing when you look down this recent form table is how points are being shared around, fact there appears to be this levelling off in the Premier League could spell good or bad news in United’s coming games.

The next three against Hull, Stoke and Palace all look winnable but all have better recent form than United…

    Grim reading.
Especially since I expect Leicester, QPR and either Hull or Burnley to go down, on form, they’re all above us . .

You fail to mention that three of our games were Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea away.

Apart from Burnley (and possibly Everton based on form) we haven’t had easy fixtures. They haven’t played too badly and even quite well in patches.

The next 3 games are important (assuming no new coach), if we do not get 5+ points from those it is a very good indicator that we are in trouble.
