Mourinho to Carver ‘If your guys keep playing like this why don’t they give you the job’

7 years ago

John Carver says that Jose Mourinho turned to him towards the end of the first half and said if the Newcastle players keep playing like this ‘Why don’t they give you the job’?

The caretaker manager claiming that having a week to prepare was a major reason for the excellent first forty two minutes.

Carver believing that it was the most positive he’d ever seen a team he was connected with play against Chelsea

“We have had a whole week to prepare and I thought you could see that in the way we approached the game.

“As Jose said to me just before half-time; ‘If your guys keep playing like this why don’t they give you the job’?”

The ‘Chelsea Millionaires’;

“I have been here many times with different teams and think that’s the most positive I have ever seen a team against Chelsea, the ‘Chelsea millionaires’ as you call them.

“I thought we created good chances and goals change games; Moussa’s chance that hit the post and Cabella, who was outstanding all day, a great save by the goalkeeper Cech.”

Not parking the bus;

“We didn’t come and park the bus and I thought the guys put a good show on.

“I told them I was proud of them and how they applied themselves.”
