John Carver ‘I got the Golden Ticket’
Interviewed just before the Burnley match, John Carver says that the experience he gained from working with Sir Bobby Robson was invaluable.
Carver hopes to use that as he takes the reins today, telling Sky Sports that getting the job working with the Geordie knight of the realm was like winning the ‘Golden Ticket’.
The last time John Carver was in charge of the team was in less desirable circumstances, after Sir Bobby had been sacked by Freddy Shepherd and John Hall.
“I’ve already dug out an old tie from when we (JC and Sir Bobby) were in the San Siro in the Champions League.
“It was the tie that we wore that night and I’ll have it on afterwards in the press conference, though I’ll have a tracksuit on during the match.
Golden ticket;
“Sir Bobby had so many words of wisdom for me when I was working with him, so fortunately I got the Golden Ticket when I got the chance to work with him for five years, I’m going to use that experience today.
“The last time I had to do this was under different circumstances. We’d just lost Sir Bob, he’s just been fired and I had to pick myself up.
“I’ll be looking forward to today a lot more.”
