What German football fans are saying about Thomas Tuchel and Newcastle United

So what are German football fans saying about Thomas Tuchel being one of the favourites for the vacant Newcastle United Manager/Head Coach job?

Tuchel was in charge at Bundesliga side Mainz for five years before taking this year out from football.

Newcastle fan Matthew Wright has come forward to offer his services on all things German and delved into what football fans are saying over in German about the possibility of Thomas Tuchel relocating to Tyneside.

Over to Matthew…

I saw your piece on French fans’ opinions on Garde’s proposed move to Newcastle and thought I’d put my German to good use and take a look at what some of the German fans have to say about Tuchel and our very own Newcastle United in the comments section of articles on German websites Bild and Fussbal International.

‘I hardly believe there’s any truth to this rumour and Thomas Tuchel please don’t take on Newcastle!’

‘Sure they can consider him – I think Tuchel however must have other goals!’

‘Ah the fairytales of Tuchel’s sabbatical year.’

‘In actual fact why not? Tuchel is too small for the bigger clubs in the Bundesliga. Other clubs are on a similar level to Mainz, maybe a little higher. Why not then make a name for himself abroad? Newcastle in my estimation are a club that should be placed between 5th and 7th in the PL.’

If he performs well, then he’ll get great attention and perhaps that’s an even bigger springboard. Besides Newcastle is not a bad club, great stadium, good budget, the squad is also good and the supporters loyal. There are definitely worse places to go and before he takes on a chaos club like Stuttgart, Bremen or Hamburg or goes to Schalke where expectations and reality are miles apart. I’d prefer to give it a try at Newcastle.’

‘I hope Tuchel has the courage to take a chance at the job at Bayern and passes on clubs like this (Newcastle) on a lower level. Pep won’t be around much longer and as his successor Tuchel would be my dream candidate.

‘I wouldn’t find that too odd. Newcastle is a middle of the pack PL team, there would definitely be worse options for Tuchel’s next post.’

‘I don’t think that Newcastle suits him. What’s he meant to do there?

‘Well, the very best of luck dear Thomas!’

‘I’d much rather go to the U19 women’s team. No matter what the sport!’

‘Newcastle, a top club? Just check out the table… they’re just safe mid-table!

‘Newcastle want to sign Tuchel’, of course they do. And next weekend I want to win the lottery!

‘Instead the question is whether the existing Newcastle players understand any tactics at all besides kick and rush.’

‘Nothing against Tuchel, but Mainz then England, wouldn’t that be a step too far? But some do grow in the job.’

Translating stuff about the club I love is much more fun than the day job, interesting to see what the Germans think to our club – doesn’t seem like an awful lot!
