Alan Pardew has confirmed the signing of Shola Ameobi at Crystal Palace.

At today’s press conference, the former Newcastle boss revealed that the forward had signed on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

shola ameobiShola had been spotted at Selhurst Park earlier in the week and last night we reported that talks had been positive and a deal was imminent.

It was Giuseppe Muro of the Evening Standard who tweeted that Pardew had confirmed the deal;

“Alan Pardew confirms Shola Ameobi has joined #cpfc until the end of the season.”

Many Newcastle fans believed that Shola had been a very lucky boy to last so long at St. James’ Park but today’s announcement points to just how little say Alan Pardew had when at Newcastle United.

Arguably Crystal Palace already have at least as many attacking options, if not more, than Newcastle. So I find it very likely that Alan Pardew would have wanted Shola to stay on at least another year at United but was powerless to make anything happen,

    My understanding is Shola was offered a 12 month deal but rejected it because he wanted a 2 year deal.

    I’m just relieved he didn’t end up back at St James’s – never rated him and now I’ve said that, he’ll probably score against the Toon

    Best news I’ve heard this month as i though he would have been given a short¬†term contract with our lot as he was a freeby. Now watch Palace slide down the table with the beginning of the new Pardewed era. What the puppet needs now is a new number two. Carver anyone.

    I dont see him having much trouble against Colo and Willo, both of whom will allow him all the time and space he needs. Bet he scores within 10 mins.

    I’m no great fan of any of our CH pairings,; but if any of them allow that lummox enough ‘time and space’, then we really DO have problems.
