Classic Yoan Gouffran goal v Southampton – Watch it here

Newcastle trailing Southampton and seemingly going nowhere in a dour first half.

gouffranA rare bot of space in the Saints’ half and Remy Cabella slips the ball through.

Defenders and Fraser Forster converge to clear the ball only for a Southampton player to lash the ball off Yoan Gouffran, the hapless United player not having a clue about it but teh most important thing is the ball is in the back of the net!

8 points from Euro place and 8 points from relegation Carvers doing a great job for Ashley. You can say what you want but he will manipulate results to suit as he does for the cups. The next thing that may happen is this could be used for betting and don’t say no, look at other sports that is why all the press talk about this and it means nothing. Ashley controls the outcome of the season because the fans and those who run the sport allow him to.

    Utter tripe.

Not covinced Goofy ever got a touch, not that it matters. Just shows fatty how desperate we need a striker. Caroll would have had at least a hatrick today. Too many chances going begging, and as for that blind excuse for a referee, No-one can tell me he wasn’t well paid off for that little gem as it was right in front of him, and I would also like to know how saints were allowed to just barge us of the ball without challenge, yet when we did it , we got pulled every time……Bent..!

A soulless performance from a soulless club. !!!!

I think people are being a bit harsh on the lads today. The team we played against today are doing extremely well this year and are enjoying results they wouldnt normally get, similar to us when we came 5th. They had the luck the needed today from the perfect deflection for the second goal to the handball that only the ref failed to see. Quite how he can explain the momentum being taken out of the shot without any kind of deflection is beyond me – if it didnt hit his arm or hand that is. We had loads more shots than they did and always looked to get forward. The main difference for me was their centre forward Pelle. He did what we can’t – hold the ball up and link up the midfielders forward runs. I would say we need a forward but whats the point as we wont sign one. Certainly not the worst performance ive seen from us.

GeorgiaPeter They are a physical, hard working team. Very similar to Chelsea in that respect or even going back to teams like Sheff Wed of the 80’s. I think we just lost out to the better team today although the ref played his part as a draw would have been a fair result. We just dont have the physical presence up front thats all. Your Carroll comment is spot on.

Colo to take most of the blame for both of their goals. Maybe his hair got in his eyes. Yes we had more shots than they did but unless you can hit the target you get nothing. We had about fifteen shots to their four but both teams had three on target and they scored from two of them. Again no target man which makes Perez look average when we know he is a class player. Dummet should have his butt kicked for missing that header late on so end of the day we got what we deserved. Nowt.

Southampton did a job on us today. We played ok Showed some intent early on but was disappointed me was our failure to support Perez. Fair enough he won’t get on the end of the majority of crosses but we have to be picking up the second ball, again midfielders sitting too deep. Too often one man breaks and there is only Perez on the move plus Anita is dross 80% of his passes are back not forward!

Look at Saints scorer, Elia. A Dutch international brought in a few days ago. Is that not showing ambition to sustain and progress?
And what have we done? Answers on several bedsheets and placards outside SJP, please.

We have done nothing and will do nothing as long as that FCB stays which is why my ticket is in the bin come the end of the season!

fatman sell up. lets start over

A lex I watched the bloke for a couple of seasons in the Bundesliga…he was absolutely minging…

  • A lex

Okay, I can’t contest your observations. But, for a winger to have 27 caps and a couple goals for Holland, it does indicate that he has something about him. Certainly more than our ‘January signing’ ;-)
