All eyes were on John Carver’s team selection in the Newcastle starting 11 v Burnley.
Papiss Cisse was always going to be one enforced change from the team that started on Tuesday and came back to beat Everton 3-2.
Maybe the biggest dilemma for the caretaker boss was how he would approach the question of Yoan Gouffran, yet again the fans overwhelming choice being to play Cabella and not Gouffran.
John Carver however deciding to go with;
Alnwick, Janmaat, Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Dummett, Tiote, Colback, Sissoko, Gouffran, Perez, Riviere
The decision to play Emmanuel Riviere appears to be a ploy to then keep Ayoze Perez in appears to be his best position, in a more withdrawn role.
However, the choice of Gouffran playing and Cabella on the bench will have disappointed many. Let’s hope John Carver has called it right.
On the bench;
Woodman, Santon, Haidara, Williamson, Anita, Cabella, Armstrong
So two changes from Tuesday’s win, with Taylor and Riviere in for Williamson and Cisse.
