Breaking news this afternoon, John Carver is to be named as the new Newcastle head coach.

With the Chronicle welcomed back into the fold at St. James’ Park, it looks as though they have replaced Sky Sports as the preferred means of getting news out to the public.

john carverNCJ journalist Lee Ryder clearly being tipped the wink and tweeting;

“NUFC due to name John Carver as head coach until May.”

Carver himself had said that he expected a decision to be made in the period between the defeat to Southampton and the following match at Hull this coming Saturday.

Despite most of the candidates touted for the job being out of work at the minute, it appears that Newcastle are going to go with John Carver at least until May.

With a week left of the transfer window can we expect the club now to leap into action and help the caretaker/new head coach with some added quality, after four matches so far under Carver without a win?

What did you expect? Its the cheap option

  • Willvenus1

Breaking news my arse. The majority of us knew this is what they were going to do as soon as it was confirmed Pardew was going. Boring, predictable and a bit dangerous.

  • Opiner1

At least the inevitable relegation battle with this moron in charge will add a bit of excitement into the rest of the season.

  • Adam_B

    Despair

  • Rabid Dog

So there was no risk mitigation or continuity planning was in place if
Pardew left, and it takes four weeks to do what we all know was going to happen
in the first place. It would great day if Carver told them he wanted a long
term deal or nothing. There’s nothing like an employer saying to their staff – I
know you want the job but we don’t think you are good enough permanently so you
can have it for 5 months….. and we’ll replace you. Utter utter rubbish….again

  • Giimps

Yip , fatty pockets the cash for selling fraudew, saves 1 million more in his wages for the 6 month till May and Carvew takes over on the same wages with the same people around him that have failed so far.
My only hope is that Aarrons, Dejong and Raylor come back in time to stop the rot and Fatty sells in the summer after pocketing the 2 years profits of £120million to pay his “debt

  • SimonM68

Don’t dispair lads – it’s like Liverpool in the 70’s – From Bobby Robson to John Carver. Has Carver got a mutt or a gerbil or something as that will be being brought on in the boot room.  It’s called succession planning (the Ashley way)!

  • pissed off mag

25/1 to go down looks like a good bet

  • SimonM68

    Giimps Somewhere oooooover the rainbow….

  • Demented_Man

I’d be amazed if it were anything different.  If he gets even half-decent results the rest of the season I can see Carver getting the job permanently.  Cheap, pliable and available.

  • SimonM68

Also means my 20-1 bet on McClaren is now goosed because the bookies deem 10 consecutive games to equate to a permanent manager apparently … :-(

  • vbhgft

So now all you morons on here no longer have Pardew to label clueless” and “useless” you will apply the same adjectives to poor old Carver and predict relegation amid claims of “hoofball” and “tactically inept” and so on. As precidtable as the regime you despise. I don’t know who I despise more – NUFC ownership or NUFC “fans”…

    YAWWWWN.

  • MarkJackson2

And a “head coach” thats been the plan all along

  • Giimps

    Weigh a pie

  • Brownale69

    where the Pard money gone?
    Oh I forgot Carver has a 5 year contract………

  • Giimps

Carver will at least try and win games playing an attacking style , what has he got to lose, if he tries and fails he’s out the door anyway when the new manager comes in, if he tries and gets us in the top half playing well the fans will accept it for now and he will raise his stock as a manager for when fatty does sell and a proper manager comes in with his own coaches and staff

  • tino o

Well he has earned it in view of recent results!!????. I have no hope of this club ever moving forward with the fcb in charge. GET HIM OUT! !!

  • Rabid Dog

Opiner1 not the sort of excitement i was hoping for but i agree….

  • DZA187

god help us, championship here we come :(

  • Giimps

He’s earning in excess of £100million a season from owning Newcastle United if you include the value his stock of Tat Direct has risen since he started his free advertising campaign using our club…….how can we beat that?
He will leave when it suits him, no empty grounds or refusing to buy shirts will get rid … He will decide when to move and we will suffer till he does

  • DZA187

tino o I can’t believe clueless John is now officially in charge, he’s our own version of Steve Kean :(

  • tino o
  • NatTurner

vbhgft  So you’re pleased that Carver got the job?

  • tyneside tommo

Like it or not but this decision makes perfect sense.
Unless of course a pup is given the job full time in the summer but given the currect contractual issues facing most of the other candidates I plan to give the regime the benefit of the doubt. The delay does make sense like it or not.

  • geordieladdo

Giimps I’ll have what you are drinking mate :)

  • Giimps

Yeah and use the money for selling fraudew to Palace ,to offset the lower league position we may be in .and therefore reduced prize money….win win for fatty

  • tino o

They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt there will be no coach replacement he will be as hard to shift as pardew was.

  • Paul Patterson

It was the only option. Everyone could see this was what was going to happen. He’s already there (Free) and Ashley can bank the £3m Pardew compensation. It’s a win-win for him.
As for staying up this season, I can see us doing just that, we won’t go any higher, we will drop a bit climb a bit and end up around 12th in the table, purely based on the fact that the teams above us will pull away and that one or two below us will get their acts together and pick up a few points.
However, if we do start to drop like a stone (Like we would’ve done last year, if the league wasn’t shockingly poor) then we will be in trouble and like I’ve said over the last few weeks, if Carver can’t get us another 10-13 points out of 16 games, then we deserve to go down . .

  • Columbus Mag

I honestly didn’t think things could get much worse than the Pardew era…I guess I underestimated Mike Ashley again.

  • davvruss

guess this is what we expected anyway, as long as a plan is in place for the summer.
were we going down before Pardew left?  probably not , so why should we be now, not a huge amount has changed, we have looked more positive in the games carver has been in charge.
there are 3 maybe 5 clubs trying hard to go down and certainly a few much worse than we are.
the negativity constantly on here is depressing, its like some of would like us to go down, and wont be happy until we do.
I am also getting worn down by this constant ashley is pocketing this that and the other, surely the pardew compensation goes into the club, yes its his club but I would be very surprised if he draws such as this out of the club. some of you have no idea how a club/business operates.

  • vbhgft

    NatTurner vbhgft Right now. Yes.

  • Hez

Season over then (if it isn’t already). Feel sorry for people who buy season tickets and have to endure this rubbish, season always seems to end in January! highest we will finish will be around 12th

  • NUFCANADA

As long as this mean DeBoer or Tuchel is coming in the summer. But I’m not holding my breath.

  • vbhgft

How about this scenario. Carver does ok. Nothing special but not too bad. Gets around 45-49 points and NUFC are completely safe.

Then they appoint Tuchel and he’s a car crash.

  • toon tony

    We’re already a right off. !!!!!

  • tino o

Never seen any empty ground people still buying merchandise and shite from his flea market. Stadium being full enhances his advertising he hasn’t been tested yet. So we best sit back and let him get on with it???

  • jimblag

vbhgft I’d say 45-49 points would be miraculous.

  • toon tony

    It’s called “being a cheapskate “.

  • jimblag

    Hez At a push!

  • jimblag

Paul Patterson I hope Palace don’t finish above us, that will be humbling.

  • Paul Patterson

vbhgft  45-49 points? WHAT? I’d like to know which games are going to provide these points . .

  • Paul Patterson

jimblag Paul Patterson  Sadly, Palace are the form club at the minute and they play us soon . .

  • NatTurner

vbhgft I hope that your opinion is vindicated by Carver doing a good job.  It’s hard to imagine that though given the results thus far.  A lot of people on here thought that the club taking so long to appoint someone meant they were bringing in someone respectable.  Someone who would bring a new energy to the club, someone who would get our players to push themselves to show him they deserve to be on the pitch, someone to stop the morass.

Why the delay for Carver?  Were no other managers willing to accept the terms?  Carver has already proven that he’s a liar and a puppet.  It’s what happens on the pitch that I care most about though.  If the results improve I’ll be happy.  But currently I’m thinking that, at best, Carver is a marginal improvement over Pardew, which isn’t what I was hoping for.  At worst, he’s a laughingstock.

  • NatTurner

Paul Patterson jimblag  Pardew is having a laugh.  Four huge wins on the trot, still in the FA Cup with many of the big teams gone or facing replays, already within four points of us, and Yaya Sanogo brought in to provide exciting firepower.  We are winless, choose not to replace Pardew (if we don’t need to replace players might as well try the same with the manager), and have bought no one.  I would have even been thrilled with Sanogo on loan.  Him and Perez up front could’ve been thrilling.

I was glad to see him go but it’s so embarrassing as a Newcastle fan to see him go like this.

  • leeksbadly

Well, my bet pays out at 12-1 but I would rather it hadn’t…

  • vbhgft

Paul Patterson vbhgft Any games from Hull, Stoke, Palace, Villa, Everton, Sunderland, Tottenham, Swansea, Leicester, West Brom, QPR, West Ham.

Do you honestly think we’re going to lose the lot? I guess you do, like people thought we would lose to Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea, even QPR and West Brom and Leicester.

We will go round in circlres. Best thing is come back on here on 24th May and see which of us was nearer. I’d put my house on it being me.

  • vbhgft

NatTurner Paul Patterson jimblag Ha ha! Serves you right!

  • vbhgft

NatTurner vbhgft Oh, so Carver is also a “liar” and a “puppet”? Give it a rest will you, for Christ’s sake, man!

As for the results so far, forget the cup game, there have only been three, two of those games were against the first and third teams in the league.

The reason we currently have 27 points is that Pardew had the dressing room with him, like it or not. Carver also has them with him. That could be very important.

Last spring, many people thought Felix Magath was the appointment that would get Fulham out of trouble. He lost the dressing room big time. At least Carver won’t do that. Who is to say Tuchel or Garde wouldn’t have?

  • jimblag

vbhgft NatTurner Paul Patterson jimblag Another person who supports Pardew rather than NUFC.
Palace probably have fan sites too you know.
You say you hate Newcastle fans? The fans are the spirit of the club.

  • vbhgft

jimblag vbhgft NatTurner Paul Patterson I hate “fans” like you, for sure. Go off to Gateshead and stay there.

  • Giimps

I’m not saying just accept it , I just can’t see a way out unless it’s the slugs decision.
An empty stadium will only enhance the adverts, don’t buy anything from any slug business and picketing his tat shops advising people of the dirty tactics he uses and sweatshops in foreign climes…..

  • NatTurner

vbhgft So Carver isn’t a lackey?  Why forget the cup game?  Because Carver wasn’t trying to win it?  Did he admit that?

  • jimblag

vbhgft jimblag NatTurner Paul Patterson What does that mean? What are fans like me like?
I take exception to fans that side with a below average manager over fans of the club who are the only reason the club continues to exist.

  • vbhgft

NatTurner vbhgft Of course he’s not a lackey you blithering idiot! He is a well-respeced coach of many years’ standing.

    He has my support.

  • vbhgft

jimblag vbhgft NatTurner Paul Patterson Toilet. Absolute toilet. Get off your high horse.

  • jimblag

vbhgft jimblag NatTurner Paul Patterson I’m struggling to understand your point. I’m not on my high horse.

  • Opiner1

So the club have lied to the fans again, spouting rubbish that they were looking for a manager when it is painfully obvious now that they intended on appointing Carver the whole time. Conveniently they’ve appointed him during a break which gives the anger a bit of time to subside before the next match. We could and should have appointed a real manager now and given him half a season to get used to the players and settle into the job. Instead, the season is now a write off, we could still get dragged into the relegation dogfight but if Carver manages to keep us up I’ll expect they’ll let him continue and thus next season will become a write off too. But don’t worry lads, think of all the money we’ve saved on wages. NUFC, balance sheet champions once again!

  • NatTurner

vbhgft He’s well respected?  He lasted 5 games in charge of Leeds in the Championship.  Look up his statistics.  Impressed?

  • NatTurner

    Games as manager – 53; Wins – 15; Draws – 13; Losses – 25; Goals For – 65; Goals Against – 88; Goal Differential – -23; Win% – 28.3.

I’ll be shocked if the rest of the season isn’t painful.

  • Giimps

More than likely holding out for joe pisquali finishing panto season

  • Mal44

As usual the Club have managed to turn this whole process into a shambles. I can’t help feeling that Charnley is completely out of his depth. Having said that I cannot now see the point of complaining endlessly about the appointment of JC until the end of the season. I think we now have to get behind him and the team in the hope they can hold on to a respectable league position and not get dragged into a relegation dogfight. It’s hardly JC’s fault they’ve made such a dog’s breakfast of it all. We can all start moaning again in May when the whole fiasco starts again.

  • Mal44

NUFCANADA  Had any of us even heard of Tuchel until about a week ago?

  • Mal44

tyneside tommo  The decision would have made a lot more sense if they had announced it as soon as Pardew resigned. It would have at least have looked like they knew what they were doing. You didn’t have to be very clever to realise that you’ll have a lot more options in the summer.

  • Alsteads

The only option is to boycott the ground. If only fans would listen and give it a go. Unfortunately I still don’t think this would achieve anything. I said the 08/09 season we went down at Christmas time it maybe wouldn’t of been a bad thing if we got relegated if only to get rid of some of the rubbish we had and their wages. (Owen for starters). The lads slated me but it seemed to clear the slate a bit. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing to go back down for a season or two. If it gave us a chance to get rid of fcb it’s got to be worth a go!! At least the press would have to find another team to kick and to be honest the respect and appreciation you got around some of those away grounds acknowledging the numbers we took to games made a nice change.
    Otherwise it’s normal service resumed

  • NUFCANADA

Nope. But I did a lot of reading up on him and there are some good websites out there explaining his tactics and philosophy. I think he’d bring a real quality to NUFC.

  • mrkgw

Dreadful appointment. Get this regime of maggots out of our club!

  • newcastle7

The guys from Bar Loco, the sixty minute and sixty minute protesters wanted Pardew out. They gave him hell so when they appoint a new manager you still not happy.Well done to Alan for getting four wins in a row you gave him hell and he i better off without you.

  • Mal44

We certainly need a new coach with some new ideas. We never look as if we are as well organised as other teams. See what happens in the summer.

  • DZA187

It’s just another bad decision by the fatman and out of 80 applications, your telling me clueless John is the right man!
