Alan Shearer thinks Alan Pardew might have got the ‘nod’ from Mike Ashley

7 years ago

Alan Shearer has given the benefit of his opinion on the latest chaos at St. James’ Park, as overseen by Mike Ashley.

The former number nine told Radio Five Live that he thinks it is possible that Pardew was ‘given the nod’ as to what Mike Ashley is going to do at United, which may have hastened his departure.

Shearer says he laughs when people wonder why Alan Pardew left, citing all the reasons why the manager’s (head coach) job is such a joke these days.

With that in mind, the Newcastle legend and fan thinks it is unrealistic to think any credible figures will be after the job and points out the reality for us all – if you sell your best players time after time then you go nowhere.

“It did make me laugh when I heard people saying that Alan wouldn’t leave Newcastle to go to Crystal Palace.

“There are a million reasons why Alan would leave Newcastle to go to Crystal Palace; he would be on a better salary and at a football club where the fans would want him, he can buy and sell the players he wants to.”

Giving Pardew the nod;

“He (Mike Ashley) doesn’t speak to anyone but there is a small part of me which thinks that he might have given Alan Pardew the nod (as regards Ashley’s future plans at Newcastle).”

This is where Newcastle are at;

“This is where Newcastle are at as a football club I’m afraid – not good news but we are all used to that.”

“I would think that Newcastle have had a million calls about the job, but whether they have had a million calls from top managers….I am not so sure.”

When you sell your best players;

“The guy who goes in, has to understand that he is not picking the players to buy and he is not deciding which of the players that will be sold.

“Newcastle have sold their best players over the last few years and when you do that, I’m afraid the inevitable happens and you are not going to win as many football matches as you should, or that you want to.”
