All time Premier League home records – Where are Newcastle & Sunderland in the table?
Who have got the best Premier League home records and where do Newcastle United and Sunderland stand in the table of performing teams?
Which club has the best percentage record of home Premier League wins and what are the factors behind the results?
It is fact that over time every Premier League club will have a better home record than on their travels. Why teams do better on home turf has many theories and it is probably a combination of many; whether it is support of the crowd, used to the playing conditions, plus the fact there isn’t the disruption of the travelling and different living arrangements in hotels etc.
When it comes to the table below, obviously the ability of the team is by far the biggest factor in the percentage of matches won at home but there are still some clubs that clearly do better in front of their home crowd than others.
The excellent Sporting Intelligence website have produced this fascinating league table of home form, take a look.
As you can see, Newcastle United are a very respectable fifth in the table, ahead of clubs such as Manchester City, Everton and Spurs who you might have thought could have been above United.
Just over half (52.9%) of the matches at St.James’ Park have been won and considering we have had one relegation and a few near misses, it is still testament to ‘Fortress St.James’.
Interesting to see Arsenal taking second behind the predictable Manchester United at the top.
Also, spare a thought for the poor mackems who have only seen their team win one in three of their matches at Stadium of Light and Joker Park.
