Stock Exchange informed – Derek Llambias appointed to top job at Rangers
Derek Llambias has been given the top job at Rangers, Mike Ashley’s right hand man is now Chief Executive at the Glasgow club.
Any doubts as to Ashley’s ‘influence’ at Rangers has surely now been swept away, it only remains to be seen how the authorities deal with the situation of the dual interest at Newcastle and in Glasgow.
Llambias takes up the role with immediate effect and Rangers informed the Stock Exchange that the former Newcastle United Managing Director’s salary will be ‘significantly lower’ than that previously offered for the position.
The Rangers Chairman David Somers said;
“Derek has impressed us with his grasp of the issues since joining the group and brings a wealth of experience, particularly from his time at Newcastle United, which we feel confident will be invaluable to Rangers.”
“This is a successful outcome to the process, announced on 27 October 2014, which involved interviewing a number of high calibre candidates.”
With Mike Ashley’s short-term secured loans currently financing the day to day operations of the club, there is little doubt who had the ‘casting vote’ in Llambias’ appointment.
