Pardew gives expected return date for Tim Krul

6 years ago

Alan Pardew says that he doesn’t expect Tim Krul, or indeed Rob Elliot, back until mid-January at the earliest.

That would mean at least [intlink id=”191″ type=”page”]seven fixtures[/intlink] without either of the first two choice goalkeepers.

United facing Spurs (League Cup QF), Sunderland, Man Utd, Everton, Burnley, Leicester (FA Cup) and Chelsea before facing Southampton at home in mid-January – 17th January.

Alan Pardew;

“I don’t think that they will be back until mid-January, it is a long wait.”

However, if Newcastle do progress in the two cups then there are games in rapid succession following that Southampton Premier League match. In the week and a half following that match against the Saints, you have the two legs of the Capital One Cup and the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It would look a no-brainer that Newcastle bring in a short-term keeper once the January window opens, even if Jak Alnwick rises to the occasion – having a 17 year old untried keeper on the bench isn’t a great plan.

On the subject of Jak Alnwick, Alan Pardew had a slightly strange way of giving him praise after the 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, saying he was to blame for only one of the goals;

“I can probably look at one goal as Jak maybe at fault.

“The second, he might have wanted to stay in his goal a bit longer without coming out, other than that I thought he was pretty sound.”

Alnwick not to blame;

“I can’t lay any blame at his door for this result and he goes to the next game.”

“This is a guy who’s got in a short period of time an opportunity to make a big name for himself, he’s the sort of guy you would want to do it.

“Jak has to prove he’s a goalie, and a top goalie.”
