Next Newcastle United manager – Runners and riders
The Newcastle United manager hotseat is now empty as Alan Pardew makes his way back down south.
The big question now is who Mike Ashley will next inflict on the fans at St. James’ Park.

Frank de Boer – I believe he’d make a very competent Toon manager but his agent not giving any good vibes – so not too optimistic
Gerard Houllier – Available I understand (currently head of football for Red Bull who own a number of clubs), I think he may do a very canny job at Toon.
Guus Hiddink – Very experienced (currently Netherlands national head coach), not one to rule out?
Tony Pulis – Can he adapt his team tactics to other than long balls, he worked a miracle at Palace last season.
Roberto Martinez – May be a decent option but unlikely as Ashley would need to spend his Pardew compensation!
Steve McClaren – May not be a popular choice but I think he may have something to offer – but see comment re compensation.
Chris Hughton – He is looking for a job… but would he come back or be asked back?
Steve Bruce – Newcastle diehard supporter as a lad but his Sunderland links and Hull’s form could rule him out.
Lee Clark – Another Newcastle diehard and I believe he’d walk from Blackpool to Newcastle on broken glass for the job – don’t dismiss him!
Fabrico Coloccini – As temp manager? (he wants to return to his homeland)… until Ashley can secure a zero compensation candidate (though seems he’s now ruled himself out).
Peter Beardsley – Sorry, never in a million years. A brilliant footballer but I just can’t see him as a manager and he’s in Ashley’s pocket.
Paulo de Canio – Not sorry – see above about timescale but make it two million years!
