Newcastle sink below Sunderland in Premier League recent form table
Newcastle’s defeat to Sunderland has seen United plummet down the Premier League recent form table.
The three points heading to Wearside is not only a blow to the pride and morale of the club and fans, with the mackems edging just above Newcastle when it come sto form over the last six matches.
Newcastle’s 7 points from the last 18 is in stark contrast to Manchester United’s five wins and a draw (16 points) and another defeat at Old Trafford would leave United with only 4 points from 18 with Everton up next.
These last six games for Newcastle have produced only 5 goals and 9 against, which is similar to the overall season so far, with United scoring only 18 in 17 Premier league games and conceding 23.
[intlink id=”191″ type=”page”]The games United have won[/intlink], massively relied on a tight defence, with four of the six wins seeing Newcastle keep a clean sheet and the other two against Spurs and Chelsea only letting in one on each occasion.
The defeat to Sunderland points to Newcastle’s ongoing problems in front of goal and it is a bit optimistic to think that not conceding goals can be the overwhelming basis for a successful second half of the season.
At least one quality striker desperately needed in January.
