Newcastle move 2 places in Premier League recent form table

Despite beating league leaders Chelsea, Newcastle have dropped to third place in the recent for table due to a combination of the draw at Burnley and the Manchester clubs hitting results, if not always great form.

Thoughts of Manchester City not challenging for the title and Manchester United not troubling the top four, look a little premature now.

However, Chelsea remain below Newcastle after not travelling too well up north, the mackems boring them to a goalless draw and a 2-1 defeat to the black and whites.

A few other interesting things emerge though as well.

When it comes to home form, the last six matches at St.James’ Park have seen two draws followed by four wins, suggesting that fortress St.James’ could be making a bit of a welcome reappearance. In fact the four wins have seen only that late Drogna goal conceded in over six hours of football and three different keepers used!

Also, while there is no doubt this month’s fixtures still look tough, a look at the recent form suggests not quite so tough as it looked when the fixtures came out.

Taking out Man Utd, Newcastle face Arsenal (9 points), Spurs (10), Sunderland (7) and Everton (6).

No reason why those games can’t be approached without fear and more than a little hope.
