Newcastle manager amazed that 4000 Newcastle fans stayed to watch
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew admits that he was amazed to see the 4000 travelling Newcastle fans still in the ground when the teams emerged for the second half.
Pardew says that the last twenty minutes of the first half were ‘tough to watch’ but for me, the whole of that first forty five minutes, I can’t remember Newcastle stringing more than two passes together.
“It was hard to watch, that first half but a much better game second-half….I was pleased to see our fans had stayed!
“That last 20 minutes of the first half was tough to watch.”
Need to take risks…
“Sometimes, particularly in the Premier League, you need to take risks.”
“I wasn’t angry, I just felt we’d lost our verve to get on the ball and put people under pressure.”
I think this is the biggest valid criticism of Alan Pardew, no matter what the team selection, he seems to send them out to try and stop the other team scoring rather than trying to get the other team worrying about what Newcastle players are doing.
If United had limped through to half-time without conceding, I doubt very much whether he would have changed anything.
On Saturday against Chelsea, surely he can give a platform to the likes of Cisse, Sissoko, Perez and Cabella to try and have a go at Chelsea, rather than setting the team up simply to try and not concede.
As Alan Pardew says; “You need to take risks…”
