New contract offer claims for Newcastle’s top player
Newcastle United are to offer a new and improved contract to Moussa Sissoko according to reports today.
United’s top player this season has become the subject of the usual speculation, with clubs such as Arsenal regularly linked with him.
Former Sky Sports journalist Graeme Bailey, now working for Goal, says that Newcastle will offer the French international better terms to help ward off interest from elsewhere.
There has been confusion surrounding the actual length of Moussa Sissoko’s current deal.
Initially, it was said that Sissoko had signed for six and a half years, which would have meant he was contracted until June 2019. However, earlier this year Frederic Guerra, Sissoko’s agent claimed that the contract was up in June 2016, though this could suggest instead some kind of clause which would allow the player to force a move at that point.
Only this weekend the Times claimed that Arsenal were strengthening their interest and could be looking to bid around £15m in January, with injuried to players such as Arteta and Wlshere, plus the fact Sissoko could play in the Champions League as he’s not cup-tied.
Needless to say, Sissoko’s value to Newcastle is far greater than it would be to the Gunners or anybody else at this moment in time.
So let’s hope that Newcastle can help make sure the French international is going nowhere soon, whilst hopefully the team won’t miss his presence too much tonight at Burnley.
