Moussa Sissoko played well – Perhaps too well

It seems years since the succession of 2-1 home defeats would leave me in a rage, holding back the tears, unable to speak as I was so angry.

This time round even my mate, who literally tried climbing into the TV in previous defeats, calmly turned the TV off and said; “I’m off to the gym.”

We expected the result on Sunday.

For me the scene was set in the second minute when we got the free-kick on the edge of their box.

How did it make you feel? For me I literally swelled up with anger, rage and adrenalin. Not rage against the fans or players of SAFC I hasten to add, who were excellent and deserve the utmost respect for their contribution to the game and the 17th minute applause – but rage against the previous scores.

Our chance for revenge. Here was the chance for Sissoko to hit the ball at 85 mph into the back of the net, or for Colback to bend it into the top corner, but up steps the ‘prolific’ Dummet to send over the worst free-kick I have seen in many a year. I even had to watch it again to make sure it wasn’t a cross.

We all saw the game so I won’t dwell on it but I would like to make a few points. Why play the (constantly) ineffective Ameobi on the wing if there is nobody in the middle to cross to. Even when he does get a yard on his man he just continues down the wing rather than attempt to cut in and run at their two centre-backs.

Why play Dummett against a quick winger like Johnson. Haidara is a much better left back who also offers an attacking threat. We were at home weren’t we?

Why bring Armstrong on instead of Cisse. I know Cisse isn’t fully fit but surely he would have worked their defenders better than somebody apparently full of potential but yet to deliver anything really. How about Riviere?

Why leave Cabella on the bench when Ameobi and our wing play in general was having no affect on the game?

I realise Pardew is limited by Ashley and injuries almost in equal measure, but did we really test them?

Did we really push them back and get at them?

Apparently we might have played better this time round but that counts for nothing. This was the most important game for me and for many others. I couldn’t care less about resting players for Man U – is that why Cabella didn’t start?

I expect nothing from that game and unfortunately I’m starting to expect nothing from the mackem game too.  So now what?

The 1 step forward 2 steps back month, or transfer window as its known to others, looms large on the horizon.

Sissoko played well didn’t he? Perhaps too well……
