Mike Williamson wants to make sure Newcastle do the basics
It was a major surprise on Saturday when Alan Pardew preferred Mike Williamson to Paul Dummett in the middle, the move proving a disastrous one as Williamson watched as Giroud scored both his goals.
No challenge for the header on the first and a terrible decision to try and play offside when it was never on for the second.
One thing about Mike Williamson is that he never hides and is prepared to do the press stuff no matter what the result.
However, after such a shocking display, players should be protected a little from themselves.
“It would be fantastic for the club to challenge for a trophy.
“We’ll get back to the drawing board and if we turn up and make sure we do the basics, we’ll fancy our chances. It will be tough but we’re confident.”
“It’s (Cup QF) something exciting to be part of and builds confidence – we want to carry this on in the league.
“A huge game for us and a win would give us positivity, confidence and momentum.
“Everyone will be pushing – we want to get to the semi-finals.”
