Jonas Gutierrez gives first big interview since Newcastle return
Jonas Gutierrez has given his first big interview since his return to Tyneside, talking about fighting cancer, the Newcastle fans, losing his hair, getting fat and Fabricio Coloccini being just like family.
The Newcastle midfielder was talking to the club’s official tv channel and said that when he heard about the 18th minute clapping and the fans singing his song, it made him feel very proud.
“I’m really happy to be back, it was a hard year for me but now, more importantly I’m involved again with the team and training. I’m really enjoying all the days back in Newcastle.
“I was only thinking to beat the cancer always looking forward.”
Winning the game;
“Really proud to be back with the lads, I was always thinking about beating the cancer, winning the game.”
A test of life;
“I never got frustrated or asked why has this happened to me?
“I think life is life and it is not easy for anybody, it was like a test that life put to me.”
Losing hair and getting fat;
“It wasn’t difficult (to tell people about the cancer), when I started with the chemotherapy I started to lose my hair and went fat due to the medicines .
“I preferred to tell the people because they started asking why I wasn’t in Newcastle, why I didn’t have any hair, so I prefer all the people to know the situation.”
“I had to say thank you because they (fans) gave me the power and the strength to go through the cancer.
“I think when you do the right things in your life, that things come back to you.
“It was amazing to get that kind of support (NUFC fans clapping in 18th minute) and singing my song, I’m really proud and thank you.”
Like one of the family;
“Colo is like part of my family and he gave me a lot of support.
“It is something really special what we have with our relationship and our families.”
Earlier today we reported that Jonas was making his comeback with the the reserves on Monday and there will be a special message from the Newcastle midfielder on the big screen at Sunday’s match.
