Jonas Gutierrez gets one over Poyet 24 hours too late
It was 24 hours too late as Jonas Gutierrez made his much anticipated playing comeback in black and white.
After watching Newcastle crumble to Sunderland yet again, a day later Jonas played 87 minutes for Newcastle reserves against their West Ham counterparts.
In the Hammers’ starting eleven was a certain Diego Poyet, son of Gus (who watched today’s encounter).
Diego had tweeted ‘Johnson!!!’ when Sunderland scored their winner but he didn’t have much to shout about this afternoon, Newcastle’s reserves running out easy 4-1 winners.
Goals from Gael Bigirimana, Adam Campbell, Callum Roberts and Liam Gibson gave United victory.
However, it was all about Jonas Gutierrez who was even clapped off the pitch by the West Ham players.
Whether we ever see him in a first team shirt is debatable but just great to see him having battled back this far.
Heartening stuff, unlike yesterday.
