John Carver press conference – Didn’t know Pardew but they became close
The first John Carver press conference after Pardew’s departure, has seen the caretaker Newcastle manager reveal that he didn’t know Alan Pardew before he was appointed as his assistant.
Suggesting that Carver was recommended as the man with the local experience, rather than Alan Pardew initially having chosen him.
John Carver has said though that he then developed a close relationship with his now ex-boss but that once he knew Pardew was in talks with Crystal Palace, he had to concentrate on preparing the players for Burnley.
A match largely forgotten in the scrum surrounding the manager’s departure.
At this afternoon’s pre-Burnley press conference, John Carver also told reporters that as expected, Steve Stone and Peter Beardsley are working with him to prepare the team for the match on New Year’s Day.
“Alan was the guy who brought me back to this club – I didn’t know him before he came here but we developed a close relationship.
“It has been pretty hectic and as soon as I knew he was in talks with them (Crystal Palace) I had to get my head around preparing the team for Burnley.
“Burnley deserved their draw at Man City. They don’t look like a side at the bottom and the manager has done a fantastic job.”
