John Carver ‘It has been carnage’

7 years ago

Reinforcing the fact that he had no prior warning of Alan Pardew’s departure, John Carver has described having to prepare for two imminent matches in such close succession as ‘carnage’.

With only 48 hours to prepare the team for Burnley, Newcastle then face Leicester City in the FA Cup less than 48 hours after the final whistle at St. James’ Park.

Carver also stated that Pardew saw the value in having a local lad as his number two and helping him thorough the tough times.

John Carver;

“I had to get my head around preparing the team and it has been carnage actually, because we have got two games over such a short period of time.

“It has been quite difficult and I have had to delegate responsibility to other people, Steve Stone in particular.”

Normality in short supply;

“I haven’t even had time to put the TV on and watch something normal.”

Are you local;

“He (Alan Pardew) was the guy who brought me to this football club and within a week of working with him he offered me a five year deal. Which was quite nice as I didn’t really know Alan.

“It was important for him to have somebody like me who was there for him in the tough times and give him advice. Especially the fact that come from the area and understood the area.”

It is now looking more and more as though if John Carver successfully navigates these next two matches then Pardew’s former number two could be getting a more permanent feel of the job.
