Five clubs interested in Hatem Ben Arfa

Five clubs are interested in taking on Hatem Ben Arfa after the breakdown of his loan move to Hull.

Over in France, L’equipe say that of the five, Nice have been the first to make a move but been knocked back because they can’t afford the playmaker’s wages.

With Newcastle happy to let the player go if someone takes Ben Arfa, matching his reported fifty grand a week wages is the only sticking point.

L’equipe have named Bundesliga outfit Hamburg as the only club so far to indicate that they would be prepared to match those wages but the player is waiting to see what other offers come his way, with Lille, Monaco and a so far unnamed Spanish club having also shown interest.

The tax situation in France makes it extra difficult for clubs there to match Premier League wages, with high earners more heavily taxed than in the UK.

A move back to the home country looks surely the most attractive to Hatem Ben Arfa but he may have to compromise on his wages if it is going to happen.
