The first three names on Alan Pardew’s team sheet v Burnley

The only plan for Alan Pardew at Burnley tonight has to be the old cliche of attack being the best form of defence, with Papiss Cisse, Ayoze Perez and Remy Cabella the first three names on his team sheet.

The Newcastle manager’s natural instincts is to defend deep and with numbers, then try to snatch a goal.

papiss cisse

I’m not a great fan of that approach anyway but at Turf Moor surely even Pardew has to see he he must bin his usual strategy.

Both Krul and Coloccini are definitely not playing, whilst the likes of Janmaat, Williamson and Haidara are all said to be struggling.

Whoever does play, clearly this defence will not be as capable as the first choice one, so United have to be taking the game to Burnley.

The first decision should be straightforward, both Cisse and Perez have to play – anything else would be plain stupid.

If once again Newcastle play with an isolated striker, either Perez or Cisse, in what is supposedly a 4-3-3 but which is most definitely a 4-5-1 when somebody like Gouffran is involved, then it is simply inviting the hosts to score the first goal and things to collapse from there.

If Gouffran plays then let him be part of a midfield where nothing is expected of him going forward. At least another part of the equation is surely not up for discussion, while he dropped him on Saturday, surely Alan Pardew has to play Remy Cabella.

Again, we have to look to attack and get the first goal, if Newcastle can get it then I can see us controlling the game from there and Burnley’s confidence diminishing. If though United sit back and the home team score, then after picking up seven points in their last three matches Burnley will be buzzing and the crowd jumping on a cold December night.

Personally I would love to see Newcastle go with three at the back and use wing-backs but that will definitely be a step too far for Alan Pardew.

With the injury situation it is impossible to predict the whole team but the first three names on the team sheet should be Papiss Cisse, Remy Cabella and Ayoze Perez.
