Breaking News – Mike Ashley blocked by SFA in attempt to control Rangers
News has just broken that Mike Ashley has been blocked in his attempt to effectively control Rangers.
To the surprise of most, the SFA have refused to allow him to increase his shareholding in the Glasgow club to 29.9%, whilst still owning Newcastle United.
That intended shareholding is just below the figure that would have meant he’d have had to offer to buy the whole club.
However, if Mike Ashley had been successful in getting this 29.9% share of the club, it would have effectively meant no major decisions could have been made without his agreement.
Just when the Newcastle United owner looked unstoppable in spreading his control wherever he wants in football and industry, he has been given an unwelcome Christmas present.
A combination of Rangers supporters campaigning against his growing influence at the club, plus a governing body having the ba…backbone to stand up to him.
How this affects Newcastle United is anybody’s guess and it could go either way, we could be stuck with Ashley for even longer, or he could make his move earlier to ditch Newcastle and concentrate north of the border.
