Aleksandar Mitrovic responds to Newcastle transfer interest

Aleksandar Mitrovic has been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle in January and United were said to have been impressed after having him watched against Galatasaray and Borussia Dortmund in Champions League matches recently.

Alan Pardew’s imminent departure is irrelevant when it comes to transfers at Newcastle, with the manager having no say on players coming in and out. So the possibility of United bringing in a desperately needed striker (or two!) won’t change one way or the other if he goes.

Mitrovic and Anderlecht have dropped down into the Europa League after finishing third in their CL group, so with no more Champions League football to offer, the Belgian club are bracing themselves for strong interest in the upcoming transfer window.

With 16 goals last season and already 15 this season, the 20 year old Serbian international looks an emerging star with the potential to increase in value being very likely.

However, now Aleksandar Mitrovic and his agent have responded to interest in the player and the Anderlecht forward told Portuguese sports newspaper O Jogo;

“There is talk of Benfica interest, along with Newcastle United and Borussia Monchengladbach, but I don’t know anything.

“I have four more years on my contract and I’m happy here at Anderlecht.”

The player’s agent Nenad Jestrovic told O Jogo that he doesn’t expect Mitrovic to move in January but of course as we all know, it is often a different ball game once the money is actually flashed.

Mitrovic has been described as the ‘Serbian Ibrahimovic’ and was signed for £4m in summer 2013 from Partizan Belgrade but now is rated at up to £15m.

Recently Mitrovic was told to forget ‘Women, food and entertainment’ and concentrate on his football, the striker returning from international duty having put five pounds in weight on.

Aleksander Mitrovic’s agent, former Serbian striker Nenad Jestrovic, said;

“He let himself go with the national team and came back five pounds overweight. A catastrophe!¨ Aleksandar moved little on the field and then I had a good conversation with him.¨

“I said to Aleksandar: ‘Women, food and entertainment is for later, for now you have to concentrate on the football.”
