Alan Shearer broke all kinds of goalscoring records in his time as the most lethal striker in Premier League history.

All the more admirable for the fact that for the vast majority of that time he wasn’t doing it for an all conquering team.

Only the season that Blackburn won the league could you really say that Shearer had an advantage over his rivals.

Those playing for the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United often playing season after season for a team that was dominating the rest.

Maybe surprisingly, only four players in Premier League history have scored 100 goals or more on home turf.

The list topped by the Newcastle United legend;

173 Alan Shearer

120 Thierry Henry

106 Andy Cole

103 Robbie Fowler

One player who could shortly be joining those four is a certain Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United striker needs three more to reach his home century and with his past record against Newcastle let’s hope he’s not carrying home the match ball tonight…
