Alan Pardew ‘I thought Mathieu Debuchy was going to be a massive loss for us…’

Alan Pardew has stated that he believed the departure of Mathieu Debuchy was going to be ‘…a massive loss’ for Newcastle United.

However, the Newcastle manager believes that this part of the transition in his team has been seamless, with Daryl Janmaat coming in and looking the part from day one.

Some fans will no doubt think Janmaat is a better player than the Frenchman but I think it is a very close call, but what I do know is that I’d hate to think that after eighteen months we are seeing Janmaat also sold for a profit….

Alan Pardew on Mathieu Debuchy;

“Outstanding professional here, I thought he was going to be a massive loss for us because of the character and quality of his play.

“But we’ve been pleased with Janmaat who’s almost won (Premier League) player of the month.

“I think that has been a transition in our team that has worked well for us but Arsenal are very lucky to have Debuchy, we loved him here.”

I think being first choice right-back for one of the better teams at the World Cup told us that we weren’t getting any kind of a mug to replace Debuchy.

However, the Dutchman’s consistency and ability to get forward and create have been massive for the team.

The fact he was the only defender alongside nine midfielders in the Opta top ten of who had covered most ground in the Premier League, says it all.
