Alan Pardew ‘This team loves itself’
When asked to reflect on his four years at Newcastle, Alan Pardew chose to comment on his current group of players and puts the recent run of results down to the fact that ‘This team loves itself’.
The Newcastle manager saying that the players love each other and prove it by protecting and backing each other up.
He also says he advised them to ‘Don’t do nothing silly’ as they enjoy the win, a reference to the publicising pre-match of Cheick Tiote’s Champagne incident and subsequent public apology.
“I actually said to the lads after, that for two days enjoy this one because this is a famous win.
“Don’t do nothing silly like we’ve had behaviour that has been publicised today but enjoy it for sure and I’m going to too.”
The team that loves itself;
“I’m going to reflect on a team that loves itself.
“This team loves itself because they love each other and they are looking after each other, covering each other, protecting each other and backing each other up.”
I have to say that even when things were going badly earlier in the season, there did look to be a decent team spirit still there. It was more the ability that was lacking.
Of course the more cynical would say Alan Pardew’s words are quite apt when the Newcastle manager is someone who very clearly loves himself!
