Alan Pardew ‘A lot to look forward to in the New Year’

After a fourth defeat in a row and with Everton to round off the calendar year, Alan Pardew has claimed that there is ‘A lot to look forward to in the New Year’.

All Newcastle fans will hope that he is proved right but the evidence of our eyes tells most of us something else.

Pardew rightly points to the likes of Perez, Sissoko and Colback having done well but yet again it looks the same problem – Newcastle having some good players but just not enough of them.

“Perez has been a real highlight for us and with Siem de Jong to return in January to pair up with Perez, that is a mouthwatering prospect.

“We have had some really good performances this season, from Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko in particular.

“We have got a lot to look forward to in the New Year, but I don’t think two wins will cloud the fact this has been a difficult year for Newcastle.”

A difficult year;

“We have had a difficult year – we were well short in the last window when we lost Cabaye and didn’t replace, then we had a very difficult end to the season and then lost Remy.

“We should maybe have been stronger than perhaps we were when we started this season, but with new players, I think we have done well, particularly with young players coming through.”

The question has to be not so much why Cabaye and Remy left but rather why Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew haven’t made sure that creditable replacements were brought in, indeed Demba Ba still hasn’t been replaced and he left two years ago.

Failure to invest in at least a couple of quality players in January could lead to a very bleak second half of the season.
