Alan Pardew ‘The Christmas gravy is going to be a bit lumpy if we lose’

6 years ago

Alan Pardew has said that not being from the area he doesn’t get as emotionally tied up in the derby fixture but says that his coaches such as Steve Stone and John Carver more than make up for it.

Today’s fixture is surprisingly timed for just before Christmas and subsequently will lead to one set of fans feeling miserable heading into the festive period.

Pardew summing that up by claiming that his Christmas gravy is going to be a ‘bit lumpy’ if United get beat again.

Alan Pardew;

“Not being from the area I don’t get so emotionally involved as my staff…and they do.

“I can understand that; it’s an emotional, passionate fixture – I grasp that, I know how important it is to our fans. We’re desperate to win, as Sunderland are as well.

“But me and Gus (Poyet) are going to set our teams up and I think he has done a fabulous job there, I just hope we can put on a show that is worthy of the occasion.”

Lumpy Gravy;

 “I’m looking forward to experiencing another derby, the end not so much – if you lose.

“Particularly around Christmas time when it’s goodwill to all men – the gravy’s going to be a bit lumpy if we lose.”

After the last dismal performances by teams Alan Pardew has sent out to contest the derbies, fans will be wishing for a lot worse than lumpy gravy for manager and players if once again they fail to get themselves up for the biggest match of the season.

How Pardew’s team will line up compared to the one fans chose in our poll, is going to be a major factor.
