17 year old called up as Newcastle could be missing 2 goalkeepers at Burnley

7 years ago

Following on from the news that Tim Krul could be missing for up to eleven matches with an ankle injury, Alan Pardew has now revealed that stand-in keeper Rob Elliot could also miss the Burnley match.

Jak Alnwick is on stand-by to play with 17 year old Freddie Woodman also included in the travelling Newcastle squad for potentially a place on the bench.

It turns out that Elliot’s partner is expecting a baby and he could miss the match to be at the birth.

Alan Pardew speaking to The Mail;

“‘Rob’s in the process at the moment, like a modern man, of having a baby, so that is an added complication.”

“He has been sitting in the background for a long while.

“I have played him in Cup games and he has done terrific for us. I really felt he needed the game on Saturday and I thought he looked a bit rusty really.”

Neither Alnwick or Woodman have appeared in the Premier League for Newcastle so it could be a big ask for them if called upon but also a massive opportunity.
