Shola Ameobi injury coincides with first win of season
Shola Ameobi was forced off with an unspecified injury after only fifteen minutes of Gaziantep’s last defeat to Sanliurfaspor two weeks ago.
Having a nightmare time in the Turkish second division without a league win since his arrival, Shola’s absence has now coincided with consecutive wins.
Kept out through injury, Ameobi has missed the last two games which coincided with Gaziantep picking up their first win of the league season against Orduspor, the 2-0 win lifting the Turkish club out of the relegation zone, at least temporarily.
Gaziantep also progressed in the Cup after Shola was ruled out through injury, beating Aksarayspor 1-0.
Next up is an away match at League leaders Osmanlispor on Sunday and it remains to be seen whether Shola Ameobi will be fit enough to resume.
Maybe the bigger question though is why on earth Shola ever ended up playing at such a dismal level of football in this Turkish second tier, watched by a relative handful of fans?
