What is it about Roberto Martinez that really winds me up?

What is it about Roberto Martinez that really winds me up?

Is it the fact that along with his club Chairman at Wigan he sought to justify the appalling assault by Callum McManaman on a young Newcastle defender (Massadio Haidara) that could have ended his career prematurely?

Is it the fact that he is clearly much loved by SKY Sports and his grinning face is never off our TV screen?

Is it the fact that he has managed to insult the memory of such past England greats as Tom Finney, Stanley Matthews, the members of the 1966 World Cup winning side and many other illustrious players, by suggesting that his podgy midfielder Ross Berkeley will become the ‘greatest England player ever’?

Or finally, is it his latest proclamation that 34 year old Gareth Barry is the best midfielder in the Premier league and should be in the England squad?

I understand that it is the norm that managers seek to talk up their players and defend them against criticism but there is something about the way that Roberto Martinez does it that I find pretty insufferable.

I look forward to wiping the grin off his face when we get his lot at St James Park later in the season!!
